Monumental Sports and Entertainment: An Introduction & Being Grateful To You

Thank you to our family, friends, employees, associates, and neighbors for your ongoing support as we continue to grow and develop the most important, influential, socially responsible sports and entertainment enterprise on the planet.

We are one of the fastest growing companies in our region and now employ close to 4000 full and part time people. We are now one of the most valuable enterprises in the region based on revenues and growth.

A super city like Greater Washington deserves an enterprise that is dedicated to quality and being an authentic steward to the community that it serves. A super city like Greater Washington deserves a partnership that is concerned with doing well by doing good.

Our commitment to the DMV is to focus on our community and put fans first in all that we do.

We have built a large portfolio of teams, brands, venues, and enterprises over the last few years and I want to give you all an update on who we are by our holdings, in an easy to navigate way:

Community Service

Perhaps most importantly—we are very active in our philanthropy – through our Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation.  We have significant partnerships to support DC’s Ward  8 with DC Cap and Marthas Table.

In the NHL, we own and operate the Washington Capitals.
We also have a deep relationship and make serious financial and personnel commitments to the Hershey Bears, in my opinion, the best AHL franchise in the league. This is an important partnership for us.

In the NBA, which is in the midst of becoming the best sports global platform and building the most value, we own and operate the Washington Wizards.
We also are deeply committed owners of a WNBA franchise, the Washington Mystics. And we are now proud owners and operators of a G league franchise, the Capital City GoGo. We also participate in the NBA Summer League.

We are proud owners and operators of one of the inaugural NBA 2k League franchises, Wizards District Gaming. We are also major investors in an endemic eSports organization, Team Liquid, who participate as one of 10 franchised teams in the North American League of Legends Championship Series.

Arena Football

In the Arena Football League, we own and operate two franchises: The Washington Valor and The Baltimore Brigade.

Georgetown Men’s Basketball

And let us celebrate the Georgetown Men’s Basketball Team, who call Capital One Arena home.  Hoya Saxa Patrick Ewing!

Our collection of venues is second to none in sports:

Starting with Capital One Arena, which just celebrated 20 years of providing service to our community, We also own the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the best training facility still in the NHL.  Kettler Capitals Iceplex has been a key place for fans and players and management to work and enjoy for a decade now.

We also provide management to the EagleBank Arena at George Mason University.

And soon will be tenants and partners at the St. Elizabeth campus with Events DC and our great city. St. E’s Arena is where the Washington Mystics and Capital City GoGo will play home games and the Washington Wizards will practice.

Media & Sports Tech

In the first regional DTC and OTT network, MonumentalSportsnetwork. We also are very focused as partners or investors in major sports tech and related enterprises, including: Kiswe, Draftkings, Sportradar, and Winview.

We are very committed to continuing to innovate; to grow and to prosper, for the benefit of our community and for all of you; thank you!

Be Monumental in all you do!

Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation

Created in 2013, Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation supports the charitable efforts of the Washington Capitals, Mystics, Valor, Wizards and Baltimore Brigade. The charitable initiatives of these teams now fall under the Monumental Sports & Entertainment umbrella, aligning their causes and unifying their giving enables us to have the greatest impact on our community.

MSE Foundation is committed to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and focuses on the following five pillars to maximize its impact and engagement with the community: youth basketball, football and hockey; education and scholarship; pediatric health and fitness; military and veterans’ affairs; and hunger and homelessness.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment Hosted Volunteers From PricewaterhouseCoopers for Community Service Day, 2017

Monumental Sports & Entertainment hosted volunteers from PricewaterhouseCoopers for Community Service Day to pack lunches for the Capital Area Food Bank Weekend Bag Program at the arena on June 17, 2016. The program was followed by a leadership panel and volunteer reception, which included VIP Monumental Sports experiences.  Over 500 volunteers packed 12,500 bags of food, while over 1,000 PwC employees attended the leadership panel and reception.

“The cool thing about today is PwC, MSE Foundation and Capital Area Food Bank working together brings to light the phrase ‘teamwork makes the dream work,’” said Harrison Boyd, PwC senior associate. “I think it is remarkable and amazing to see we can make an impact with hunger and youth, and the idea of children going without food is unfortunate and the fact that we can help eliminate that goes a long way.”

Playworks Washington, D.C

MSE Foundation partnered with Playworks Washington, D.C., providing a $25,000 grant and programming for the 2016-17 school year. Playworks is currently in 18 public and public charter schools in Washington, D.C., bringing safe, meaningful play to 7,100 students every day.

Playworks is a national nonprofit organization that transforms schools by providing play and physical activity at recess and throughout the school day.
It teaches children to resolve their own conflicts that arise at recess and carry over to the classroom, improving school climate both on and off the playground. Playworks helps transform recess into a safe, fun and inclusive time that gets students active and engaged so they can return to the classroom focused and ready to learn.
