Be Monumental

The real monuments of our city are not made of stone, but of flesh and blood. They’re not carved from rock, but from muscle & sweat.

No one put them on a pedestal – they had to climb up there themselves. And the inscriptions they make, are chiseled on their bodies.

The monuments of our city live among us, not above us.  They are not giants,  but they help us walk tall.

They laugh and cry with us. They bleed with us. And they fight every inch,  and second, for us.

When they rise, so do we all.  When they fall, we pick each other up.  When they do the impossible, we know what is possible.

They are the living, breathing monuments of our city. And each of us can be one, too.

Double Bottom Line

At Monumental Sports & Entertainment, we are driven by a belief in the double bottom line: the idea that the companies that do best are those that also do good. We believe that sports is one of the connective bonds of community and we strive to support and serve our Washington, DC community every day.

As part of our effort to recognize the everyday heroes in our community, we are launching the Be Monumental Community Champion Awards. Throughout the year, Monumental Sports & Entertainment will honor people in our community who are making a difference in the lives of others.

You can nominate a community champion in your life here, on this site.

Nominees can come from all walks of life and can contribute in ways big and small toward making the world a better place for their neighbors. We want to hear your stories.

Introducing Monumental Sports & Entertainment

Ted Leonsis
Ted Leonsis

Thank you to our family, friends, employees, associates, and neighbors for your ongoing support as we continue to grow and develop the most important, influential, socially responsible sports and entertainment enterprise on the planet. We are one of the fastest growing companies in our region and now employ close to 3,000 full and part time people. We are now one of the most valuable enterprises in the region based on revenues and growth.

A super city like Greater Washington deserves an enterprise that is dedicated to quality and being an authentic steward to the community that it serves. A super city like Greater Washington deserves a partnership that is concerned with doing well by doing good.

Our commitment to the DMV is to focus on our community and put fans first in all that we do.

We have built a large portfolio of teams, brands, venues, and enterprises over the last few years and I want to give you all an update on who we are by our holdings, in an easy to navigate way:

Community Service

Perhaps most importantly—we are very active in our philanthropy – through our Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation. We have significant partnerships to support DC’s Ward  8 with DC Cap and Martha’s Table.

In the NHL, we own and operate the Washington Capitals.
We also have a deep relationship and make serious financial and personnel commitments to the Hershey Bears, in my opinion, the best AHL franchise in the league. This is an important partnership for us.

In the NBA, which is in the midst of becoming the best global sports platform and building the most value, we own and operate the Washington Wizards.
We also are deeply committed owners of a WNBA franchise, the Washington Mystics. And we are now proud owners and operators of a G League franchise, the Capital City Go-Go.

We are proud owners and operators of one of the inaugural NBA 2k League franchises, Wizards District Gaming. We are also major investors in an endemic esports organization, Team Liquid, who participate as one of 10 franchised teams in the North American League of Legends Championship Series.

Arena Football

In the Arena Football League, we own and operate two franchises: the Washington Valor and the Baltimore Brigade.

Georgetown Men’s Basketball

And let us celebrate the Georgetown Men’s Basketball Team, who call Capital One Arena home. Hoya Saxa Patrick Ewing!

Starting with Capital One Arena, which just celebrated 20 years of providing service to our community, We also own the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the best training facility still in the NHL. Kettler Capitals Iceplex has been a key place for fans and players and management to work and enjoy for a decade now.

We also provide management to the EagleBank Arena at George Mason University.

And soon will be tenants and partners at the St. Elizabeth campus with Events DC and our great city. St. E’s Arena is where the Washington Mystics and Capital City Go-Go will play home games and the Washington Wizards will practice.

Media & Sports Tech

We own and operate the first regional DTC and OTT network, Monumental Sports Network. We also are very focused as partners or investors in major sports tech and related enterprises, including: KisweDraftkingsSportradar, and Winview.

We are very committed to continuing to innovate; to grow and to prosper, for the benefit of our community and for all of you; thank you!

BE MONUMENTAL in all you do!
